My name is Megan and I've struggled with Mental Health all my life. I've seen what society can do to a person and how well they are treated if they have a mental illness or if they don't. Stigma exists in the Mental Health community and I am just one person trying to get rid of the stigma that we face. We are regular, normal, functional people who are wired differently than others. Anxiety is the main one I struggle with and it hits most people with a Mental Illness but we deal with it in different ways. We, are lumped into a category of the dangerous, insane, and violent individuals you see on TV and movies. Frankly, we've had enough of it. Just because we have a Mental Illness doesn't mean we are any of the those things. In fact, many of us are the opposite. The Mental Health system has failed many of us and some have fallen through the cracks. I for one, thinks it's time for a change. Society needs to wake up and realize that we are a big part of the community and not what people see in TV and movies. Our community is fed up with it and we want people to see for who we are and not our illnesses.
